Chart Types

ChartLabs supports multiple chart rendering styles. Switch between them using the chart type selector on the toolbar.

Available Types

Candlestick

The most popular chart type for trading. Each bar shows the open, high, low, and close:

  • Green/bullish candle -- Close is above the open
  • Red/bearish candle -- Close is below the open
  • Wicks -- Thin lines extending above and below the body show the high and low

OHLC Bars

Traditional bar chart showing open, high, low, and close as a vertical line with horizontal ticks:

  • Left tick marks the open price
  • Right tick marks the close price
  • Vertical line spans from low to high

Line

A simple line connecting each bar's closing price. Clean and easy to read, ideal for identifying overall trend direction.

Area

Same as a line chart but with the area below the line filled with a semi-transparent color. Visually emphasizes the magnitude of price movement.

Heikin Ashi

Modified candlesticks that use averaged values to smooth out price action and make trends easier to spot:

  • Consecutive green candles with no lower wicks indicate a strong uptrend
  • Consecutive red candles with no upper wicks indicate a strong downtrend
  • Small bodies with both wicks indicate indecision

Changing the Chart Type

  1. Click the chart type icon on the chart toolbar
  2. Select your preferred type from the dropdown
